The report – produced by consultants KPMG – highlights the impact the pandemic has had at the top end of English football.

And it shows for the first time that it is City who are currently the dominant force in the city as far as finances are concerned.

The figures demonstrate how City’s recent run of success has turned them into a new superpower of English and European football – while the Red Devils have not won a trophy since 2017.

Karim Benzema

12 Jan: Benzema is the star watch in Saudi

Karim Benzema will be hoping to make his mark on the Supercopa de Espana in Saudi Arabia, with Real Madrid set to face Barcelona on Wednesday night.

The French striker is popular among football fans in the area given his Islamic faith and the fact that he often attends Mecca, the holiest city in Islam and site of pilgrimage.

Real Madrid fans all over the world will be hoping that Benzema is on form once again to fire Los Blancos to the final, where they will face the winner of the other semi-final, with Atletico Madrid and Athletic Club facing off on Thursday.

Kylian Mbappe

10 Jan: Mbappe ‘could still snub Real Madrid move’

Paris Saint-Germain attacker Kylian Mbappe could supposedly still snub a proposed move to Real Madrid.

The World Cup winner is widely expected to complete a free transfer to the La Liga leaders once his PSG deal expires at the end of the current campaign.

Mbappe has already ruled out the prospect of a move to Real Madrid in January, in spite of reports claiming that Los Blancos were preparing to tempt PSG’s resolve with a £42m bid.

Federico-Chiesa

10 Jan: Chiesa damages anterior cruciate ligament

Juventus winger Federico Chiesa will undergo surgery after damaging the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, the club said Monday, potentially ruling him out of the World Cup playoffs for Italy in March.

Chiesa was hurt in Juventus’ 4-3 win over Roma in the Italian league on Sunday. He felt a “blunt trauma sprain” in his knee, Juventus said, and had tests on Monday. “It will be necessary for the player to undergo surgery in the next few days,” the club said.

20 Dec: Real Madrid reportedly have plans to recruit both Kylian Mbappe and Erling Braut Haaland

Mbappe has just over six months remaining on his Paris Saint-Germain contract, and the 22-year-old has hinted at a move away from the Parc des Princes after stating he is keen to experience “different cultures” during his life.

Even though the Frenchman will be able to hold pre-contract negotiations with other clubs from January 1, PSG sporting director Leonardo remains confident that the forward will commit his future to the Parisian outfit.

Haaland, meanwhile, is expected to leave Borussia Dortmund next summer when his £64m release clause becomes active.

Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has confirmed Real’s interest in the Norway international, though the player’s agent Mino Raiola has denied reports that a move to the Santiago Bernabeu has already been agreed.

Erling Haaland

20 Dec: Raiola denies Haaland have a pre-agreement

Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke confirmed this week that Real Madrid are “especially” interested in Haaland, and some reports had claimed that an agreement could already be in place.

However, Raiola has rubbished those rumours and insists that the Norwegian will join the club that is best for him – which could also mean staying at Dortmund beyond the summer.

“Haaland can wait for everyone. We don’t have a pre-agreement with any club,” Raiola told NOS.

“We will look for the best option, and I also never ruled out another year at Borussia Dortmund.”

20 Dec: EPL clubs to decide Christmas fixtures…

Premier League clubs are set to meet this Monday, December 20, in order to decide whether or not to postpone any of their Christmas fixtures due to the impact of COVID-19 on the league.

The Premier League has games scheduled on December 26, 27, 28, 29 and 30, as well as on January 1, 2 and 3.

The league had 42 positive COVID cases last Monday, which was a record since the beginning of the pandemic, and there is the expectation that this figure will only increase if something isn’t done.
